Overview
Dakhla sits on a narrow peninsula with the Atlantic on one side and a shallow lagoon on the other, about forty kilometres long, which is why it has become one of the main kitesurfing destinations on the African coast.
Four days based in the town are enough for the lagoon, the white dune, the oyster farms, the hot spring and a day out to the cliffs and beaches north or south of the peninsula.
Trip Highlights
- The Dakhla lagoon, shallow and flat for around forty kilometres
- The white dune where the sand slides into the water
- Oyster farms on the bay and fresh shellfish at the source
- The natural hot spring at the head of the lagoon
- Desert and cliff scenery on the excursions out of town
