Overview
Essaouira is an eighteenth-century port on the Atlantic, laid out on a grid behind sea walls, with a medina listed by UNESCO and a fishing harbour still working every morning.
The drive from Marrakech takes about two and a half hours across the Chiadma plain, through argan country where the trees grow and the oil is pressed.
