5 Days M’hamid to Erg Chegaga Camel Trek

5 Days 4 Nights

Overview

The classic caravan crossing of the western Sahara in Morocco: five days on foot from M’hamid El Ghizlane to the dune field of Erg Chegaga, which stretches for tens of kilometres and rises to around 300 m.

The route passes the ruined ksar of Bousnina, the small ergs of Zahar and Sedra, and the dry course of the Draa, camping in a different place each night before the last approach to the great dunes.

Trip Highlights

  • A four-day walking approach to Erg Chegaga rather than a drive
  • The ruins of Ksar Bousnina and lunch under the tamarisks
  • Camps at Sidi Naji, Erg Zahar and Erg Sedra
  • The dry bed of the Draa and the old caravan tracks
  • Arrival on foot at the largest dune field in Morocco
