3 Days Fes to Merzouga Desert Tour

Departure from Fes in the morning through Ifrane and the cedar forest near Azrou, where Barbary macaques are usually seen at the roadside.

Lunch in Midelt, then south through Er Rich and the high plateaus to Tinghir. Dinner and overnight beside the Todra Gorge.

A morning walk into the gorge between its high walls, then east across the Tafilalet plain, passing khettara irrigation shafts and the fossil workshops of Erfoud.

Arrival at Merzouga in the afternoon and a camel ride into the dunes of Erg Chebbi for sunset. Dinner, drums around the fire and the night in a desert camp.

Sunrise over the dunes and the ride back to the village for breakfast.

The return road passes Rissani and then follows the Ziz Valley north through its long palm groves, with lunch in Midelt and arrival in Fes in the late afternoon.
