2 Days Zagora, M’hamid and Erg Chegaga by 4×4

2 Days 1 Night

Overview

For travellers already in the south, the great dunes are within reach of a single overnight. This short route starts in Zagora, follows the last stretch of the Draa Valley to M’hamid El Ghizlane and turns off the tarmac for Erg Chegaga.

The return crosses the edge of Lake Iriki before rejoining the road, so the two days cover a loop rather than an out-and-back.

Trip Highlights

  • Tamegroute pottery kilns and the Tinfou dunes south of Zagora
  • M'hamid El Ghizlane, the last village before the open desert
  • Off-piste crossing to the Erg Chegaga dune field
  • Night in a desert camp with dinner around a fire
  • The edge of Lake Iriki on the return
